February 10 - 11, 2025

HKETO in Singapore celebrates successful "Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival@Huayi”

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore is proud to support and partially sponsor the "Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival@Huayi", organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. Held as part of Singapore’s Huayi Festival, this landmark event featured an outdoor concert and a talk, showcasing Hong Kong’s vibrant creative talents and fostering cultural ties between Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Outdoor Concert: A Fusion of Talent and Innovation

The concert brought together Hong Kong’s talented singer-songwriters and artists, including Monky (薛德勇), TAOTAO (黃曦桃), mue (陰亨俊), and renowned singer-songwriter Yatfung (林一峰). They were joined by a live band - CM Groovy (band leader and bassist), Joshua Chiu (keyboard), Nate Wong (drums) and Tan Cong (cello), delivering compositions that spanned genres from indie folk to contemporary pop. The performances highlighted Hong Kong’s next-generation creativity, blending traditional influences with modern musical styles. The inclusion of cross-cultural collaborations, such as reinterpretations of classic works, underscored Hong Kong’s role as a hub for artistic innovation.

The concert, at DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre, attracted over a thousand of diverse audiences, including local Singaporeans, expatriates, and members of the Hong Kong community, receiving acclaim for its energetic performances and fresh artistic perspectives.

Talk: Notes for the Future: Charting Global Pathways in Music’s Digital Age

Complementing the concert, the talk provided a platform for dialogue between Hong Kong and Singaporean artists, industry professionals, and cultural advocates. In particular, we were pleased to have Dr Liang Wern Fook, a renowned Singaporean lyricist, composer and Xinyao singer, to be the talk’s special guest. Discussions focused on nurturing emerging talents, adapting to global trends in the arts, and leveraging digital platforms for cultural promotion. This session reinforced the importance of cross-border collaboration in sustaining the dynamism of Asian pop culture

The highly anticipated talk generated exceptional interest, coming with a live online streaming while all tickets were fully claimed shortly after the release.

As the first overseas iteration of the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival, the event amplified Hong Kong’s soft power in Southeast Asia, aligning with the HKETO’s mission to promoting Hong Kong’s cultural strengths across ASEAN markets, further positioning Hong Kong as a gateway linking Mainland China and global audiences.

We extend our gratitude to the Esplanade, LCSD, and all participating artists for their invaluable contributions. Special thanks to the Singapore National Arts Council and the Hong Kong-Singapore business communities for their steadfast support.
