Hong Kong tertiary students visit HKETO Office

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore was pleased to start the year by continuing our ongoing engagement with tertiary students from Hong Kong, welcoming student groups visiting Singapore as part of their study and career exploration programmes. Director of the Singapore ETO, Mr Owin Fung, introduced the work of the ETO and shared insights on the socio-economic and geopolitical developments in the four countries under the office’s purview.

Singapore ETO supports Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation in Singapore to promote Hong Kong cinema

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore is continuing its support for the annual Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation in Singapore, which this year is featuring six recent Hong Kong productions across a diverse range of genres, from animation and drama to documentary and family entertainment. The Gala Presentation opened on the evening of December 18 with the film "Another World", a Hong Kong-produced animated feature supported by the Film Production Financing Scheme under the Film Development Fund.

Singapore ETO and AFAA co-organise first Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation in Vietnam to promote Hong Kong cinema

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore and the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) co-organised the first-ever Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation - Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City. Four recent and acclaimed Hong Kong productions across diverse genres - namely "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In", "Stuntman", "Four Trails" and "Last Song for You" were presented to promote the vibrancy and creativity of Hong Kong cinema to Vietnamese audiences.

Singapore ETO joins publicly funded universities to promote "Study in Hong Kong" in Vietnam

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore supported and participated in two education promotional events in Vietnam, with an aim to promote Hong Kong's quality higher education and the "Study in Hong Kong" brand. Organised by the eight publicly-funded universities, the two events took place in Ho Chi Minh City on October 11 and in Hanoi on October 5.

Hong Kong Joint-University Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore proudly sponsored and participated in the Hong Kong Joint-University Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner on October 4, which drew close to 270 participants — the largest in recent years! The evening brought together Hong Kong alumni living in Singapore, Singaporeans who once studied in Hong Kong, and their families who came with children to celebrate this meaningful festival of reunion.

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore hosted a dinner at the Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore on September 1 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its establishment, a milestone underscoring the enduring partnership between Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a whole. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, officiated at the celebration dinner during his official visit to Singapore.

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore (Singapore ETO), in collaboration with the Singapore Film Society (SFS) and distributor KillerMud Films (KMF), copresented an exclusive screening of the award-winning Hong Kong documentary “Four Trails” yesterday evening (August 13) at Golden Village Suntec City, Singapore. Both the film and event showcased Hong Kong’s vibrant sporting spirit, stunning natural landscapes and compelling cultural storytelling.

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore supported the musical “She Came from Beijing” (約定 · 香奈兒), presented by Spring-Time Experimental Theatre and produced by acclaimed Hong Kong director Clifton Ko (高志森). The musical featured a powerful solo performance by Hong Kong stage actress Perry Chiu (焦媛), who also wrote and directed the show.

In April and May, Singapore HKETO was pleased to welcome over 110 tertiary students from Hong Kong to Singapore as part of their study and career exploration programmes. ETO director, Mr Owin Fung, delivered presentations on the uniqueness and importance of HKETO’s work and shared about the socio-economic and geopolitical developments in the four countries under our purview — Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, and India.

Singapore ETO promotes Hong Kong in Vietnam through government and business engagements

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore (Singapore ETO) participated in a business networking luncheon held on May 16 in Da Nang, Central Vietnam, as part of its continued efforts to promote Hong Kong across Vietnam. In April and early May, the Singapore ETO also conducted two other official visits to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to further promote Hong Kong and strengthen ties in northern and southern Vietnam.

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore (Singapore ETO) concluded an official visit to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, between May 6 and 7 (Vientiane time). The visit aimed to deepen understanding and collaboration with the Laotian government and business sectors, while further strengthening bilateral relations in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

Chinese New Year Dinner in Vietnam

The HKETOSIN hosted the first Chinese New Year dinner at Ho Chi Minh City on February 28, taking the opportunity to celebrate the new year and our 30th anniversary with the rapidly growing Vietnamese partners and counterparts. Jointly organised with the Hong Kong Business Association Vietnam, the event gathered over 200 distinguished guests from the government, business, chambers of commerce, and Hong Kong communities in Vietnam.

ALICE (in wonderland) performances by the Hong Kong Ballet (HKB)

The HKETOSIN supported and sponsored ALICE (in wonderland) four performances by the Hong Kong Ballet (HKB), one of Asia’s premier dance companies, at the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, Singapore, which the opening performance was held on February 21. ALICE (in Wonderland) was a magical production by the Artistic Director of HKB, Mr Septime Webre, which combines stunning choreography, captivating storytelling, and world-class artistry.

Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble (竹韻小集)

More than 10 members from the Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble (竹韻小集), sponsored by the HKETOSIN, travelled from Hong Kong and performed in the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay to mark the opening of the 6th edition of the Ding Yi Chinese Chamber Music Festival 2024. Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation

We were delighted to support the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation in Singapore, where local cinephiles were treated to a selection of eight Hong Kong films of different genres screened in Cantonese. Four Hong Kong filmmakers, including directors Anselm Chan, Dickson Leung, Herbert Leung, and screenwriter Anastasia Tsang, attended the opening screening, with nearly 300 movie buffs engaging in a Q&A after watching the opening film "The Last Dance."

Cantonese opera performance (粵劇折子戲寶《百花齊放鑼鼓響》)

The artistry of Cantonese opera was showcased in Singapore through the star-studded programme 《百花齊放鑼鼓響》 sponsored by our office. Led by veteran artiste Michelle Yim, prominent Hong Kong artistes and renowned Cantonese opera performers presented classic excerpts from repertoires of Princess Cheung Ping (帝女花), Legend of the White Snake (白蛇傳), and many more, captivating close to 1,000 audiences.

Destiny The Musical (緣份)

We were thrilled to have supported Destiny The Musical (緣份), produced by Spring-Time Experimental Theatre, which was one of the programmes of the inaugural Hong Kong Culturtainment Festival in Singapore. Featuring two musical talents - Charles Teo and Leanne Jackson from Hong Kong, over 800 audience members enjoyed a medley of 40 classic Cantopop tunes of Hong Kong cultural icons Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui.

The Chief Executive Mr John Lee delivered his Policy Address themed “Reform for Enhancing Development and Building Our Future Together”, outlining wide-ranging initiatives. The policy blueprint focused on consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong’s status as an International Financial, Shipping and Trade Centre, developing new quality productive forces and attracting high-calibre talents while fully implementing “One Country, Two Systems” and strengthening governance systems.

Asian Youth Orchestra concert

We are pleased to have supported the Asian Youth Orchestra concert at the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. Awarded the Nikkei Asia Prize for Culture and Community in 2015, the Hong Kong-based orchestra returned to Singapore after an 8-year hiatus with close to 800 audience enjoying classical pieces performed under the baton of principal conductor Joseph Bastian.

Chief Executive’s ASEAN trip

The Chief Executive John Lee led a high-level delegation comprising six senior officials and some 30 business leaders from various sectors to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The ASEAN tour was a fruitful one, with a total of 55 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements concluded in three countries.
